Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland fever begins

January 19, 2010

In March 2010, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland will be released in theatres – that won’t be the only Alice in Wonderland goodies releasing. Designers, Stella McCartney and Sue Wong;  jewelry designer Tom Binns and crystal brand, Swarovski will be releasing their own line of Alice in Wonderland tie-ins.

Tom Binns Collection

Tomm Binn was one of the first to jump on the Alice in Wonderland bandwagon. The collection consist 35 pieces of jewelleries and  will be available for USD$100-USD$500, considerably less then normal Tom Binns prices. Although 6 pieces will retail from USD$1,000-USD$2,0000, a little bit of a Tom Binns diffusion line won’t hurt anyone. As expected from a designer who worked for Vivienne Westwood – Punk fashion anyone? Gorgeous.

McCartney's accesories

Then Stella McCartney announced she will be doing accessories inspired from the tale. The Stella McCartney necklace and bracelet, handmade in Italy, use the story’s iconic images — the Mad Hatter’s hat, a rabbit, spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds — as charms, which are strung (with pearl baubles and Swarovski crystals) on a chain similar to one used for the designer’s Falabella bag. McCartney boutiques will carry the accessories — chain ($425) and bracelet (USD$395) — starting in February. Pretty chic!

Swarovski Earrings inspired by Alice in Wonderland

Also available in February is Swarovski’s Underland collection featuring 17 jewelry pieces — pendants, necklaces, rings and earrings — with Alice in Wonderland imagery: Rabbits, watches, cups of tea, small muffins and donuts, flowers and an enigmatic Cheshire Cat embellish necklaces, pendants, bracelets, rings and earrings, precious and ironic. Without forgetting the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter identied in hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs, or scissors, and coils of thread. Underland sells for USD$80 to USD$150 at Swarovski stores, online and selected departmental stores. The collection look pretty.

Sue Wong has designed a collection of dresses, using antique lace and colors inspired by Wonderland characters — Alice, the Red Queen, the White Queen, the White Rabbit and the talking flower garden. The Sue Wong collection for Walt Disney Signature, which includes baby-doll, empire waist and column dresses, retails for USD$329 to USD$609. They will be available next month at Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Macy’s and online. Will you buy it? To me the collection seems dauntingly boring and old. Let’s hope the rest of the dresses aren’t this hideous.
